Virtual Sound Images is a bit of a departure from the more traditional 'rock' aspects of Out Out. Principally instrumental, quite dancable, yet very detailed and layered, this first new album in years shows Mark Alan Miller's willingness to stretch out and try new things. The first of two instrumental records slated for release in 2006, V.S.I. is the more upbeat, lighter-spirited of the two, showing a sense of humor and levity often missing in the techno/industrial music scene. The sound of V.S.I. is not easily categorised, due in part to a wide range of styles, yet the album is still quite cohesive, and should appeal to a large cross-section of industrial/electronic music lovers.
