2011 promises to be an exciting year for smartphone technology. Carriers and manufacturers are gearing up to release some advanced new phones in the first half of the year. These phones will include 4G and feature better hardware and software then anything offered before. There have already been over a dozen announcements from top carriers, with more to follow at the Mobile World Congress trade show in mid-February.
For example, Sony Ericsson is expected to debut the Xperia Arc, an Android phone that can double as your TV's remote, as well as a "PlayStation phone" next month. There is also the Motorola Atrix, an Android phone that can function as a Linux-based desktop or laptop PC when it's plugged into the appropriate dock, possibly replacing a tablet or netbook.
